Are we doing a countdown until a specific smell triggers too much of an extreme reaction, Yannit breaks the restraints in a scary way, and then she still doesn’t hurt Ran because she trusts him and she’s absolutely the best girl? Well if that species is anything like other social insects like ants, bees, and termites, she is just a drone, incapable of reproduction and thus would not have those inclinations.
Exactly why it’s concerning if it happens
With thousands [millions?] of species of social insects, it is not surprising that in some, the drones are capable of both sex and reproduction. In the ones we are most familiar with, we might say “barely capable”, since the queen does almost all the egg-laying. But if the hive is deprived of all queens, some of the drones will start laying, possibly only enough for the hive to survive until a new queen is hatched, but it is not out of the question that our girl will start reproducing, and she could want our heroes to hunt up a boyfriend for her or do it themselves.
_Drones_ are males. _Workers_ are females. Usually _warriors_, if the eusocial species has such a caste, are female as well.
In some species (I can think of a few wasps), workers can lay eggs, but due to pheromonal and behavioral cues, either generally don’t, or the eggs are “policed” out of the way. These eggs are usually male.

Interesting. If some of these bowls contain, as they appear to do, cinnamon, lavender and what may be star anise pods, that’s the first sign we’ve seen of Earth plants in this entire comic so far…
