Looks like it tried to cobble together an extra yinglet from organic material in the soil or even the wood of the floorboards. Still though, I’m expecting there has to be something that’ll be recognizable to Kass for Ran to be concerned about showing off this find. Kids, this is why you don’t let your medical nanites do drugs.
This explains why they still call it “the hole,” but it’s hard to tell what they’re looking at here. There’s definitely a yellow-green and purple blob of something organic, with some … are those blood vessels in the dirt? Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t think the dark sliver of a 6th panel is enough for the reader to understand the twins’ reaction, or Ran’s. Am I missing something?
Hells bells, seeing Ran smile like that while the twins look on in horrified silence. This with the present scene of Ran, of ALL people “”Waiting for Officer Kassen to have a, ahh… …a better day for that one”
Just what the hells is this? I eagerly await whatever horrifying revelations are to come
You know, my running theory has been that they are all actually humans from another planet, and Zhat Zhing was intended to transform human colonists into a human intelligence variant of a native species, the lesser yinglet, so they could have a morphology that had adapted to survive, and only one group of humans used that technology for whatever reason and the ones we see are the descendants, and no one remembers because the colony collapsed thousands of years ago…
…but if there’s like, a bunch of insects turned into Lesser Yinglets in the hole, it will make me wonder if they were ever a native species at all.
Ran’s smile should serve as a general warning sign.
Did… did it turn the *dirt* into a yinglet?
I’m thinking it turned an insect or a worm into one.

That’s what I’m thinking as well. Seems like there’s blood vessels in the dirt. And possibly an eye?

Now I’m wondering where that vial of yingletification came from in the first place. I don’t know if it’s very advanced science or powerful magic.
