This is getting cuter every new page. I wish all bosses/superiors were so considerate towards new people that are anxious about new responsibilities, especially when they are tossed right into the ocean of uncertainty. Some people don’t understand that the difference in mindset (that you can’t just change on a snap of a fingers) can make something, you find easy, a super difficult and complicated for another person. Kass knows how different perspective changes everything.
I mean, did he really just slip out off-camera away from this situation? or is he like… watching from the distance? I know the single instance that showed him slipping away as Kass was being analyzed by Kalgkur, but come on, a situation like this doesn’t happen every day, don’t tell me he’s not watching.
I wonder if it bothers Lopin that Kass is being kinder to this random stranger than (s)he has ever been to him. The poor guy hasn’t had an easy time the past few weeks either: manipulated and threatened by Brakka, beaten up by the enclave scouts, exiled by Vizlet, and sent to live where the only other yinglet he can expect to see very often is usually unhappy to see him. It hasn’t been all bad for him, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this hits him in the heart a little.
Back on page 260, Lopin happily thought of Kass as his Matriarch, and was otherwise very happy with his situation. I think he just sees Kass’s “agressions” as Matriarchal.
Keep in mind that Kass has also had some pretty positive moments with him as well, especially after that moment of empathy when he understood the situation, and has been a lot nicer to him in recent interactions, outside of smacking him in the head just now for pretending to be Kass.
I will say though, the way Kass treats him is unfair, and has even been pointed out by other characters, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it comes up eventually.
Kass’s “boss” is Ran, who reports to the trademaster. Compared to Ran, Kass is a very good boss, now that Kassen is not dreaming of hooking up with an exotic dancer.

Queue the second revelation!
you know, all this makes me wonder… where dafuq did Lopin go?

That seems like the kind of thing that Kalgkur will identify, analyze, and ask about.

Maybe Kass can teach Kal to stop groveling so much.
I wanna see Kass riding on Kal’s head. (:
