I think he’s just glad Kass is happy, no matter what the circumstances may be. I don’t think he had a crush on Kass before the change, and it’s a pretty big leap to assume he’s attracted to yinglets, so I don’t think the transformation would have changed much in that regard.
Elim has lamented time and again at his frustration of not being able to do anything to help Kass through this insane hardship. As important as “just being there” is, it’s far too passive to feel satisfying, especially to a soldier who is used to having specific goals with known objectives and ends. Being able to provide any direct comfort to Kass, such as being a warm, comfy place to rest, is bound to feel more satisfying to him even than saving Kass’ life from the Yinglet troup.
I admit, i’m technically an Elim-Kass-shipper, but in this case, you are far more spot-on about the emotions that is involved.

I’m sitting here wondering how two gigantic battleships were cute together.
Just few questions…
Where are the hair ties? Kass had them on when was grabbed by Elim.
Why Elim still wears the Ivenmoth uniform? Souldn’t he wear something more confortable?
Kass is just over Elim’s wound. Is Elim still drugged and can’t feel any pain?
Kass wouldn’t have had trouble taking them off to get comfortable.
I honestly wouldn’t be surprised is the most comfortable thing available for grunts.
Yinglets weigh like four pounds, And Kass is spread out all over his torso, he’s not putting that much weight on the wound.
Actually I went back in the comic and kass is actually avoiding the stab wound. The only thing on it is his leg, which I assume weighs less than nothing. Just wanted to point that out.

True, but thinking over the alternatives, that would involve probably more visually distracting designs of the eyes or design of the tear duct in an unfortunate spot. Best to accept as it is cause cute!

It’s just to get the happy-sleepy and the bleary-eyed expressions, I know, I’m not really complaining. In panels 5 and 6 the upper eyelids close onto the bottom of the eye, in line with where the tear ducts would be, but raised lower eyelids are visual shorthand for certain expressions.

Super adorable. I see no need to ship it, I just read it as Elim and Kass are not burdened by our Western hangups over intimacy. This kind of platonic cuddling should be more commonplace than it is. 🙂
Especially with how yinglet mating goes, I could easily see relationships that are closer when platonic rather than sexual.
