Should Kass have a new Identity? It should depend on if Kassen the Human gets credit towards a retirement for having served a given period of time already. With a Yinglet’s shortened lifespan its rather important if Kass wants to retire in 15 years or 20! Having been a soldier, these things are very much in the forefront of one’s mind. Counting down the days till the end of deployment, or years to retirement is very much a thing!
I would add that a new idenity would lead to less confusion versus having to explain the impossible to everyone over and over (and with little proof), and certainly its not a good idea before leaning what “Zhat Zhing” is and if the Yinglet elders plan to do with it. Kass can be open to the people she is close to, most of whom already know about the Human Kassen. But its easier to be what people expect than to constantly challenge what they are already certain of. And dropping the existence of the transformative might mean Kass would not learn if its reversible or who ultimately is to blame as politics would get in the way. The only reason Kass has to tell the world is her being lonely for human companionship, and really Kass can have that anyway, its just going to be different, which would have been true as a officer anyway (no fraternization between officers and troops is rather standard). We kind of need a org chart for Val Salia’s military seeing we know a lot about the Yinglet enclave, but little about the Military Kass has been serving in, and who her fellow officers are. I think Kass being introduced to her equals in rank, or indeed being placed underneath someone of higher rank would allay a lot of her uncertainties. Being given a task, and a purpose usually does.
It is always nice to see the gears in someone’s head turn as they realize things. Yeah, there are probably things being done in the shadows to limit information about Kassen the Yinglet and Kassen the human, but I suspect it is more similar to how a corrupt policeman merely goes to another district rather than be fired for breaking protocol with gun usage. Just “promote” his previous acquaintances to further away positions, while keeping his circle of friends he relies on close by.
Yes, there are people who could make the connection, but simply offering a slightly more plausible cover story, like “Kassen died in his duties, and a yinglet diplomat, touched by his patriotic act, took on his name.” or “Yinglet got given enough alcohol it forgot its name, and chose the first name it heard that drunk doctor say.”
Plenty of more realistic reasons than a panic-inducing ‘human turned into a scav’ thought that people won’t want to have.
I’d like to think Kassen Akoll died a martyr’s death, which showed the Drinnish enclave to be particularly valuable to the Guildmaster. Both explaining Kassen’s disappearance and also explaining the extra money flowing into the Drinnish Bunkhouse (soon to be renamed the Kassen Akoll Memorial Bunkhouse) and perhaps a word could be spared for a certain Female Yinglet joining Val Salia’s troop, and with her rank as a female being naturally that of officer within a Yinglet enclave, its not a far stretch to say it benefits Val Salia both for Yinglets and for Val Salia having what amounts to its own matriarch working for Val Salia.
A bit too idyllic in my opinion, and doesn’t explain why a yinglet has his name. It hasn’t been long enough for a yinglet to have been christened with his name to be a full adult, and doesn’t satisfy the condition of “yinglets getting into trouble because their stupidity” that the general human populace regard the species with.
The key for storycrafting is to play into already existing ideas. Linking a rumor to cash flow also would get people to expect the Guild to shell out for accidents… which might not be in the Guild’s interest. That is taking our world’s modern-day era logic and applying it to what is a medieval era. No, the powerful flagrantly exploiting the uneducated is the name of the game here.
Never said Kass has to remain Kassen, but she has been publicly introduced as Lady Kass in the Yinglet Enclave (OOP#21) so a name like Kassera would be adequate. As for the cash flow thing, I’d not think that dying in the line of duty wouldn’t have a reward attached (ala the Purple Heart for the US military) or even greater honors given post-death. Its not unusual, but few people are willing to die just to be so honored. That Lady Kass might have been involved or even saved by Val Salia’s Drinnish hero’s sacrifice would inspire her to join the Val Salian Military. People believed the Geroge Washington Chopped Down a Apple Tree story, this one isn’t farther from the truth than that. Or perhaps you have a idea of your own?
When you get cought up, might check “Learn to Live” on Deviant Art. IMHO the best Spin off comic featuring Yinglets, though there are indeed many others.
Seeing the OOP’s author is totally leaving the “Yinglet” copyright open, minus keeping ownership, and asking for credit, Yinglets are popping up all over the place! there are 1,200 posts in deviant art alone! I was playing a admittedly smutty game this week and got Yinglet TF’d @ my character (Flexible Survival) which is kinda hilarious as my power there allows me to 1 shot dragons, which kinda makes me a naughty Yinglet God of sorts! As for my favorite Yinglet related artists, besides Valsalia himself (who does a 2nd comic strip not shown here at all, but is on Deviant Art) is Umbrascythe (author of Learn to Live), StarstruckEchoid (Author of Scav’s Glory), LunarScorpion1990 for YINGLETS IN SPAAAACCCEEEEE (OK its called “New Ties”) and I have hopes for a artist that goes by Mywayorzimbabwe for some pretty good posts. There are like I said, a thousand and more, many pretty good. Hope you check some out, and drop a dime for a starving Yinglet artist, 2020 is still a thing and talent should be rewarded.
Quick answer: Don’t Know. Long answer: Speculation…Consider animal claws, like a dog’s. They are alive to a point, with living tissue within the claw, which is the bane of anyone clipping one’s dog’s nails and cutting too short. So its possible that the claw is Keratin that grows from the bone of her hand/foot/paw almost directly. This would be better than the claw being actual bone, which would be a nightmare for infection.
Poor, poor Kass.
I am very unnerved by the drawing of the claw/nail internal, for reasons I cannot properly express.
Love it! Lore is a great part of the comic for me
Gives me flashbacks to reading about declawing cats.

YAY for more lore!(^∇^)
(also, I totally forgot what a pain it is to send a comment here… =/)

I discovered your comic on a porn site (luscious) and i’m glad i did! It’s great!

Really? Would it be in poor taste to list them here?

There’s a E Missing in the sentence “surely he has some reason” it says “surely h has some reason”
i discovered this comic just recently and i really like the yinglet’s
“Surely h has some reason.” Bit of a type there. Missing the letter E. 😉
typo*
How ironic. x3
In Russian, we often intentionally write the word for “typo” with a typo in it as a joke 😀
What’s the Russian word for typo?
Is the claw literally connected to the bone or is this just Kass’ sensation? There must be some skin structure bellow for the nail to grow from.

Imagine a yinglet with a mustache, like Mayor from Powerpuff Girls.
