…uhhh if there were no roads, buildings or structures left behind…maybe there never was? and the antiques found seem to be found on the surface….maybe they fell from the sky? something that floats and leaves no trace other than what falls off it
Or what if the civilization isn’t human, like Yannit’s people. OOP has a minimum of 5 sentient races on their world, its kinda likely that Humans aren’t the oldest. Isher’s people we no absolutely nothing about, and Yannit’s people could be the oldest also. Both races are more comfortable below ground than above it, which would mean any structures would be subterranean, with junkpiles of trash buried near the surface. If one of those junkpiles have been found, then possibly a settlement was nearby.
You make it sound like portals to random places just pop open from time to time on this world and vomit out a double handful of confused, displaced refugees like some kind of Bermuda Triangle welcome-to-your-new-home science experiment.
Civilizations rise, Civilizations fall. We know of Human ones due to our habits of building stone structures above the ground, connected with roads, and occasionally through literature or artifacts. Now if you are a Indrel, you live below the ground, in a hive. The roads and houses aren’t to be seen, and within a century of the collapse of a hive, it’d be hard to tell that one even existed. But I doubt they would dig and displace rock/soil just to bury their garbage in a tunnel! They would haul it to the surface and bury it in a mound or pit, like our ancestors did. And yes, Archeology kinda works like that sometimes. Being in the right place is kind of key to finding what you are looking for!
indeed science and discovery is (and this cant be lied about) 80-90% chance with the other 20-10% repeted experamentation/continuation of digging/observing,
Bit of that, but also a means to a end for Ran. Ran is looking for something, and quality archeologists aren’t in huge supply at this time period. Though the Baxxid would be invaluable at a excavation, both for their natural abilities and mental ones as well, they probably don’t go out looking for artifacts due to them not being able to use some form of riding animal. Plus the hand thing. Ran also can’t use the Yinglets due to Val Salia’s yinglet scavengers being controlled by Patriarch Narklet. So he’s kinda in a bind as for finding something that even he can’t describe for fear of causing either panic or destruction of the very thing he’s looking for.
hmmm… Extreme post apocalypse? That is the theory i am bringing up. A world far into the future where humanity got heavily reset back to the stone age due to some catastrophe that left barely any remains behind. Something that really wiped away all the tech in the past. and this is a second cycle of human development.
it is a very reaching theory but it would make alot of sense. They have some pretty advanced medicine for a medieval era. They are aware of how to treat appendicitis after all and treat internal injuries and keeping a wound clean. if it was a late era humanity civilization. it is possible they built things that bio-decomposed out of a thought of ensuring ecological stability long after their fall. Artifacts that are ancient but lead to rediscovery of lost technology the modern era has. Would also explain a complete lack of Animals as we know them. seeing as they would have had to re-evolve after a new major ecological cycle. though humans not evolving alongside may debunk this part.
It would also explain these random artifacts. and the sky as well. If this is far enough in the future. its likely that its another planet or galaxy. or even far enough ahead to be when Andromeda hits the Milky Way. Nanotechnology and bio-engineering could also explain alot of sentient beings existence. The rise of the greater Yinglet and their genetic adaptability to mutate quickly between generations. and the “Magical” item that breaks down and converts something into another thing.
Do bear in mind. I am very much likely wrong about this but I really do like coming up with silly insane theories for these things. And i wanna be proven wrong by the story.
Interested to see where you are going with all this… I guess one of these ‘antiquities’ is what got Kass? Wonder what the background to them is.
That moment when you have found someone with a similar hobby, but is ruined by Body Odor.
Oh the comic name is a reference to OOPArts! Iiiinteresting!
I blames ze transporter misfires (and ze boopings)… yes yes!
things without context can be absolutely bewildering.

It scares me to think that Ran may have found a kindred spirit.
