Maybe, maybe not. There are plenty of symbiotic organisms that live in humans, it’s not too much of a stretch to imagine that baxxid have a form of symbiotic fungus that can go to full bloom when the rest of its hosts systems have shut down.
So are they dead or lobotomized? I feel like those scratch marks wouldn’t be around the thought bubbles if it was silent and there is the suggestion that the scream was hearable.
yeah reading through this comic fkn flies. 6 years and we’ve discovered so much but it still feels like the beginning of act 1. joy is in the journey i guess, welcome to the journey.
Hope you enjoyed it, and Val’s other comic Lusty Argonian Maid’d, which is a bit racier. If you like Yinglets, check out Learn to Live, which like Val’s second comic is on DeviantArt by a artist called Umbrascythe.
This place contains far too few individuals to be a cemetery, unless they get rotated out in due course.
I’m starting to wonder if this is a natural phase of their life, and not a parasite or decomposition,
but I am wondering what evolutionary purpose it could serve? Perhaps these are pregnant with young;
notice -“Progenitor”. Also perhaps they don’t live beyond this stage once the young are born?
We will see I guess. But I’m reminded of a Sci fi story of a Silicon based race where the elderly don’t
ever die, they simply slow down and stop, become stone. ‘Revived’ temporarily for special occasions.
(Sorry if this double posts recaptcha woes as usual)
Interesting take, but we do not yet know a Baxxid’s lifespan, or breeding rate. So, its possible that these individuals were all that there is, or were involved in a accident where they became as they are. There are a lot of questions about our gentle, yet large Baxxid friends we have yet to have answers for.
So the mushrooms do come out of the carcasses, though it doesn’t seem to bee any sort of malady or malignant infestation.
Perhaps it’s a sort of funerary practice; Death bringing forth life anew and all that.

I think the speech-bubbles indicate Kalgkur’s high frequency speech. The stuff that’s mostly inaudible to humans.
I believe it’s actually low-frequency speech with Baxxid (there was a page that had “infrasonic giggling”, and “infra” means “below”).
Still inaudible to humans, though.
This makes me wonder if humans could go out of the audible range for baxxids.
Gosh, I was not expecting to have caught up with the entire comic in the span of two days. I am gripped by the biology and sociology of this world.

Could it be a private graveyard?
Perhaps just for some wealthy individuals?
There were guards.
It sounds like someone should read “Interspecies Dating: A Guide to Relationships Between Sapient Beings”.
Could you elaborate on the source? Google leads back here
Sometimes people just offer made-up books to fictional characters.
but it would be a cool name for a sci f book, like ‘Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy’
That one sounds familiar though, like I’ve heard it before. Maybe it’s the book Mordin offers Shepard in ME2?
which one, the dating or hitchhikers guide? latter is a real book, trilogy in fact, movie & miniseries too. hilarious.
Haha, the dating one. I know of the Hh Guide, though it is still on my to-read list.
oh, you gotta. if not the books then the BBC mini-series.
there was an infocom game too.
For those who are wondering, the scream referenced is this one: https://www.valsalia.com/comic/out-of-placers/oops-41/
Looks like it’s part of their life cycle. I’m guessing they’re like piggies and have a plant part of their life cycle.
piggies????
Yeah, you have Pig Face, Pigsqueak and then Pigs.
that clarified absolutely nothing
