OOPs #187

The ventilation system in The Teeth is extensive and quite effective. It was also implemented long before there were yinglets in the area.

Hmm, is a good question by Patriarch Beizel, I would say de answer is being ze mascot, and seen as family to Officer Kassen. However Lopin was never told about “Zhe Deal” Kass struck with de Trademaster that guarantees treatment for the Drinnish folk, and his oddballs in trade for Kass “Cooperation” in zhings she would rather not do for Ran and de Matriarch. Zo Lopin’s answer will have to come from his own experiences zo far, of which his best answer is zhat dey are his friends.
He’s the very good boy, obviously.
Literally he’s well liked and such…actually if you think of it he’s become a mascot and technically Kaz’s right hand man and this exile is essentially the 2nd most important Yinglet outside of the Colony so essentially he’s on even rank with a Patriach by yinglet rules….oh that would be hilarious for him to realize this I could picture the sudden blank look at it occurs to him and then he could scream, “WHAT HOW!?”
That would be such an amusing result as him thinking he’s on the bottom and an exile lowest of the low then realizes this exile has essentially also promoted him to a rank that’s the highest a male Yinglet could ever hope to reach.
I Zhink Lopin has done more for Valsalia than Kass has. Kassen is important to the Trademaster, of course. But for what Kass has actually done for de Humans minus being observed, Lopin has had a greater measureable impact on de folks he has interacted wizh, and improved morale in a noticeable way. Dis makes Lopin more important to the dealings of Valsalia than even making a yinglet a ranked officer. Ran, the Kitchen staff, the Medical Bay, and the Tailors all have been shown directly to have positive interactions with Lopin, and secondarially brighten the lives of those they interacted wizh. And dis from a species whose usual first question regarding yinglets is to kick zhem or nots. Even when ze patriarch noticed zhat all de humani were at ease wizh his presence, Lopin deserved de credit for zhis in large part.
Wait doesn’t that mean that technically he has enough accomplishments that he would outrank any of the patriarch’s in the colony? So technically he could actually order other yinglets in the city around due to him being that important. or at least cause him to be a successful exile so he might attract other exiles and have him become their leader.
If anything he’s definitely likely not the most highest ranked Yinglet in the entire city maybe second only to the matriarch. since he might actually be able to have some pull to a point with Insmoth right now. which is definitely huge.
Rank is important in zhat it signifies respect. Kassen is respected as a officer, because de trademaster is respected, and part of his glory is reflected upon officer Kass. Lopin by his actions has gained respect from a superior (sorry, but you just are) species by his own deeds. Zhat is nozhing to sneeze at, and zomeday more than Beizel will recognize his value to bozh humani and yinglet as well.
Zhis however does not mean Lopin needs to be put into a place of authority, as the quickest way to ruin what he has is to ask Lopin to be creative. Give him some time, and ya, Lopin will make for a solid Patriarch, wizh as much humani contact as Vizlet had. However, Vislet recognized zhat she had a oppurtunity to learn, and take humani knowledge and change the deistiny of her enclave and possibly species. Lopin, likes to dance and wear femmy clozhes. Perhaps Beizel can mentor him, and wake himzhelf up to the one in a billion chance Lopin has, to learn, to alter Humani opinions, and to play a pivotal part in Vislet’s plans to basically uplift Yinglet kind to Humani’s level, or as close as she can.
Amusing idea it would be interesting to have a one page short where you ask each character to do something creative and just see what they do especially the yinglets.
He’d make a good court jester, just needs a slightly different outfit. Patriarch of Japes?
In time, our Lopin could be several zhings based on his intrests. Here is a few possibilities:
#1: Patriarch of Trade. Lopin has a eye to things that are worzh having. When he was introduced, he was a merchant, and since zhen has been exposed to humani goods on a ever increasing amount. Zhat he as de “Puppy Dog” eyes makes zhose around him underestimate his intellegence.
#2: Patriarch of Tailoring. Lopin does love his outfits, and could easily help Yinglets to weave cloth in more than scraps at a time by studying wizh his tailor and seamstress humani friends.
#3 Patriarch of Humani relations. Lopin simply gets along wizh most humani, even more so zhan experienced Yinglet Patriarch and Matriarchs. If Kass is to be the bridge between de two species, zhen Lopin is Kass’s ambassador to Humani. Kass herself zo far is rolling a 2 on her D20 for charisma. Lopin balances zhis out, with a high charisma (for a Yinglet, impressively so) but zo far unimpressive intellegence.
Perhaps they could roll the dice together and see what comes out the other end, so to speak… OK, so that’s probably not going to happen (I suspect “over your dead body!” might be the response, if it were suggested) but it’s fun to imagine. From a distance.
I admit Lopin was shown to be entrepreneurial, and more than capable of defending his turf against other yinglets, literally. Among humans (especially those competent enough to have a reason to be here), the comparison fades; but perhaps he can learn . . . something in his time with them.
Lopin and Kass being mated sounds unlikely if you are a human. For a Feemale Yinglet zhough, access to breeding is considered the highest honor a Matriarch can bestow. Yinglets also have multiple fathers, and offspring benefit from zhis with a lack of defects as traits are averaged out among the Parents. Zo a single defect in genes is usually recessive by default.
Zhis means if Kass replaces Vislet someday (possible) or forms her own Yinglet Enclave wizhin Val Salia (needed wizh the number of outcasts zhere) She will be expected to reward her retainers in the traditional Yinglet fashion. And Lopin will likely still be a important person in her life zhen, unless Kass finds a way to return to humanity in his journey, and even likely zhen, as a friend who gives you zhier clams as a yinglet, is a friend for life.
I still knowz nozhinks bouts noying! Nozhinks! *hides insides conveniently placed box and listens*
Oh buts zhose teezh vent tunnels was so very smartsie smarts… wonders if zheys connectings wizh za Baxxid splashy splashy nots water slides zhingies? O_o
I is hoping dey not connected to de Latrine o_O. I knows Yinglets have funny ideas about soap, but a wrong turn and another exile is born >_<.
But I gaves many many apologies to za Baxxid… splashied in za river for likes a whole day… mopped all za places ze Baxxid said tos… and did lottsa ‘be zheir hands’ zhingies for like over two weeks (long long times). Ze Matriarch used only a few LOUD words at me… doubled my clams digging quota fors a week… and pulled my ear a littles (owies). Stilll… *wonders where all za vent tunnels go… but gets distracted by and chasies a bug*
somewhere between unpaid intern, kinda confidant/”this yinglet is decently pleasant to have around I guess”- probabaly kass, and a dress up doll. not bad for a yinglet all things considered.
Ah, so that’s the way he goes about it.
Patriarch Beizel. Proving once again that Yinglets are made of Yinglet.
I, for one, admire greatly the game Beizel is playing right now.
A game that most probably ends with Lupin being maneuvered into being forced to admit that there are people who like him. _Many_ people.
That is clearly a Lopin.
Thanks to Specific Yinglet for the log-in instructions. I found this webcomic basically at random a couple of months ago through the Belfry Index, and immediately fell in love with it. Great characters and story, and I really appreciate all of the detailed worldbuilding that has gone into this.
You are welcome! Litterally zo! Toss the boss a dime if you appreciate ze comic, and follow zhis on Deviantart, and ze other Yinglet Comic, Learn to Live, also on Deviantart if you want more Yinglets in your life. De boss has anozher comic on Deviantart too, based on de videogame Pie-rim or zomezhing. I zhink de boss and de Oracle of da Bakersroof (OOP #74) do zhat one together eating clams or somezhig.
Coinz tossed! Thx for the info.
More clams fors Za Clam King! Errr… I means za hoppy snappy dino-bird zhingy. *blink blinks*
Welcomes and has a clam… *gives clam* Zhough be very carefuls around green glowy rock zhingies… or you alsos may form za predilection fors clams… oh sooo pretty tail-poofs… and fires. O_o
Oh noes! Enlightened questioning! Run! Run pretty-boi! I can HEAR mental clutches trying to engage!
Beizel is a very pointy boy.
Both sharp and to the point! As such, he’s a useful tool. Thankfully on the side of good (as this comic presents it).
Exactly the *ahem* point I was trying to make!
Clam disposal! Give all unwanted clams that are not too stinky here to get r
*Perks Ears* Clams? Dragons don’t need da clams, Yinglets do! *narrows eyes* Zhough miss Isher might be eating zhem and making her have da chunky bootie. Zo..turn over da Clams for your own good, or you too MAY get a Isher bootie!
Clams disposalz? ^O_O^
Nonono! No be zhrowings away clammies! Clams should be takens to za Patriarch of foodzhingies (I likes Poak)… for keepings an distributings to za members of ze enclave… (and friends of za enclave likes Mister Sir Officer Ma’am Lady Kass… Tinbirdy up zhere… ZhatOzherPlainzYinglet… Lopin… and ozhers as needed). Don’t makes me has to tells Ze Matriarch (she’ll use lotsa LOUD words and maybies pull some ears)…
Is a fate too horrible to contemplate for a ying who eats Vislet’s Oysters she had collected for herself and Beizel. Might be better to lay down in front of a herd of stampeding tiplods zhan have to listen to Vislet on full lecture mode. I is not sure what Kass might do to ya, but making her mad would trigger the Indrel. Yannit is full on the most dangerous zhing in de comic by far, including de Trademaster, or even Ran’s sense of humor!
See, in my opinion he is being kept as a pet or “mascot”, at least by the people making his outfits.
The Lopin is doing very well. Is because of his ridiculously high stat in charisma I zhink. Is somezhing he has worked to achieve and has paid off with actual clams, if not a near monopoly to a feemale yinglet of his own. Ozher yinglets are watching dis story, wizh various amounts of jealousy.
If you ever wanted to hear Kass say: “What dark deed did you do to get zat body!” Check out the boss’s Deviant Art page, where a friend of his named ComicTF and he got Kass at absolute maximum floof for their image. For de ozher Yinglet comics, Learn to Love by Umbrascythe (for a Ying, zhier name zounds like Oom-bra-zief when I say it) is still impressing me on de quality of character, worldbuilding and art. Karentina continues to draw pics dat belong on someone’s wall, dey are so, so beautiful. If you zhink I am kidding, she did ze Sistine Chapel pic
dat Michelangelo did, but wizh Yinglets! She is crazy good. Starstruck Echoid’s Scav’s Glory has ended, good job dere for dat one, zhough as a direct spinoff of OOP I just wassnt into it.
For de suprise comic (besides OOP) I has really enjoyed of late, it has been zomezhing zat has bald Yinglets! (I know how very odd) and dey call zhemselves Drakka despite having de worse speech impediments as we do, guess being shaved yinglets, zhey cannot call zhemselves ying anymore. But besides the very disturbing idea of shaved yinglets, it really is a good tf based read. Check it out: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/40539427
Well, that was an interesting eight hour read! Thanks.
