I had to go back a long, LONG way to see exactly why Kass threw a towel at him. https://www.valsalia.com/comic/out-of-placers/oops-103/ for those similarly curious or forgetful.
Zhanks for taking a stab at it.
I see what you did there…
Looking back at the original scene of the surgery reminds me that Kass has stopped wearing those hair ties. They worked well and I wonder why Kass seems to prefer the complete mop-headed look.
Most clothing makers are friendly as long as you try on their clothes!
It strikes me that the clothing effort may take a while.
Possibly three whiles.
I’m estimating two and a quarter whiles, myself.
“I do try.”
Don’t we all… well, not all of us try, but you know what I mean.
this is an interesting interaction
yinglet- low status
officer- high status
_________
doc acknowledged kass’s rank, didn’t care he was a yinglet, but didn’t consider he had a personal connection even though it was obvious AF to the reader. i feel weird about it. good writing.
Zhis is not zhat shocking, to find out zhat de officer corps are scared shitless about becoming de officer corpseses if dey fail zheir missions! De trademaster is a lot of zhings, but tolerant of failure does not seem to be one of zhose.
My respect for Dr. Merrs has just grown a good bit. He didn’t have to try and see it from Kass’ point of view. And Kass now knows his. An understanding has been reached! \o/
Kass an za Doctor havings a frankie an honesz discussion to reachies commons understandings and makes nice wizh each ozhers…
*blink blinks*
YAYS!!!
(…and nozhings gots sets on fires! Evens more yays!)
Ah Ok, see that makes sense. Anyone would be rightfully upset getting disrespected for presumably doing their job correctly. So if anything no ones fully at fault here there was just a lack of context all around. and hey getting on familiar terms with the head surgeon is probably good in the long run so it all works out.
Yes, it really explains a lot: Dr. Merrs thought Kass was upset because he didn’t do a better job with the surgery, and that she was “impudent” for throwing a snotty rag in his face because he had “only” saved Elim’s life! Wow. We all feel SO much better about Dr. Merrs now. Not so much better about the rest of the “officer and management classes” though.
