Zally has so much of Kattajak’s DNA in her that she’s only a few steps removed from basically being a female clone of him. They’re probably the closest thing to a human father/daughter relationship in the enclave.

Ultimate Yinglet-Woman!
THE PLOT THICKENS!
Ok, so Zally as Kata’s daughter confirmed, for all the people who kept not getting that implication.
Gonna go ahead and guess that “she” is the female that Feena said was taken away. It sounds like said female did some act of defiance towards the patriarchs or matriarch or elders, perhaps physically fighting with someone higher in the ladder, perhaps even tried to start a rebellion, and the Elders chose to do something more than move her…
I mean, females are precious to them, but if the hierarchy is more precious, she could be a prisoner, or executed, or some other punishment. I doubt they would exile a female, regardless: that would risk having a breeding female somewhere who they can’t control. I’m going to guess that this missing female was either imprisoned or executed by the elders.
Another thought… Could our missing yinglet female be Zally’s mother? She looks nothing like Vizlet or Feena, and it would definitely help explain his concern for her.
You’re right, can’t exile a female, and they are too important to execute. Most obvious would be a forced relocation. Probably to an enclave which already has plenty of females, so her influence would be limited, and where the patriarchs are loyal to the elders and can be trusted to keep an eye on her. Somewhere she can be given a new life, and a choice: Keep your mouth shut and lay eggs, or expect beatings until you learn to stop being defiant.
I imagine the elders to be like any government, human or yinglet, in that aspect: They believe that their rule is the best, and thus it is their duty to ensure that they hold on to power. For the good of the people they rule over, of course.
Defiance is a possibility. On the other hand, it might be a simple accident – a play-fight got out of hand, a yinglet was maimed or killed. Were it a male who did that, they’d be exiled. But females are too important, so in order to avoid a simmering anger in the community she might have either volunteered for reassignment, or been ‘voluntold.’ In that case, it’s quite possible she is happily living at another enclave by now – though with perhaps a few rumors circulating about ‘did you here, her last enclave expelled her? No! Really?’
Well, I figured that they had to be family. Good to have confirmation on that. And kinda glad I was wrong about thinking that they hated each other. That couldn’t’a been further from the truth.
Maybe it’s just me, but I’m not sure why being able to defend yourself like that would be seen as a bad thing.
Traditionalists will be traditionalists, I guess. It’s no more ridiculous than some of the gender roles human societies have enforced.
Maybe because the females are, due to their rarity, very highly protected. A female yinglet shouldn’t need to fight because she is always either safe in the enclave behind a small army of yinglets, or leaving the enclave under the escort of a well-trained team of bodyguards. If a female has to fight, that’s a sign that others have failed in their duty.
I’d say zhat de Yinglet Council is a Patriarchy. De Feemales represent a danger to de Council, so removing knowledge of zhings like fightings keeps zhem from easily training a force to overthrow de rule of de Council. A Rogue Feemale is one of zhe nightmares of the Council, so dey watch Vislet very, very carefully. Combining Vislet’s love of knowledge with Zally’s martial arts knowledge would be very formidable.
