Interesting side details; baxxid seem to have extremely precise bands on their vision’s focus, even at short distances. Also, unless the Trademaster is in the habit of holding a pose mid-sentence, they can also speak their own language in a fraction of a second(admittedly this could just be artistic expediency for finishing the comic).
I think if that was a serious attempt at baxxid-vision, we would see something weirder than that. It’s been stated that they can see clearly through their eye-covering headdresses, and as subterranean creatures they can probably see clearly in pitch black conditions as well. I think the DoF effect is just a quick way of differentiating cloned panels for the sake of artistic expediency, as you theorize for the lack of time passed between said panels.
On that note, I don’t think baxxid speak that much more quickly in their native speech based on earlier conversations we’ve seen. They gesticulate in ways that imply their conversations are happening at a relatively normal rate, that is unless they gesture at hyperspeed… but Kass’ insistence that baxxid almost never do anything in a hurry contradict that shaky theory. It WOULD be pretty cool if they communicated super fast like Warhammer 40k tech priests chattering in binaric, but evidence suggests that isn’t the case.
I love that this is finally happening, but a thought occurs to me: if humans are as small and fragile relative to baxxids as yinglets are relative to humans, will Kass become even more self-conscious about being physical vulnerable while being escorted by Kalgkur?
Perhaps a better question is if a Yinglet stab can penetrate a Baxxid’s skin. Kass would be for almost anyhing dat doesn’t involve Elm getting shanked again.
That’s a really good point! And I have no idea what the skin is like on their torsos. My thought was Kass might worry about accidentally getting squished by Kalgkur, but if he proves his self-control, it would be a great relief. I’m still worried about Kal’s impulsiveness, and he does have a reputation. We’ll see!

I thought “golden eyes” was a metaphor. Apparently not.
