Well it was bound to happen sooner or later. She has shone tremendous strength so far but after what she went thru she was bound to suffer a mental break down eventually. But at least it’s in a her room and it didn’t happen during that Yinglet meeting or during something important. I wonder if Lopin will help or make things worse.
For now I think Kass is just letting people use whatever they want to. The enormity of the species change is overshadowing the impact to gender. Even if they want to stick with ‘he’ among friends, they’ll probably have to stay ‘she’ to the yinglets since the respect toward females is a big part of making the Ivenmoth deal work.
*Hugs for Kass* Shhh…shhh, hey, hey, its alright, you’ve gone through a change, thats all. Change can be scary, yes, but change can also one of the most important…and BEST things in the world. Many changes can lead to something better and it’s not always readily apparent what. But you hang in there, Kass. You hang in there because, as bad as things seem to be, if you keep living good things can happen to you. They really can. There’s a song I know. I like to thnk of it when the world seems bleakest.
Some things in life are bad.
They can really make you mad.
Other things just make you swear and curse.
When you’re chewing on Life’s gristle,
Dont grumble. GIve a whistle.
And this’ll help things turn ut for the best.
And…
Always look on the bright side of life…
If life seems jolly rotten
There’s something you’ve forgotten
And that’s to laugh and smile and dance and sing.
When you’re feeling in the dumps
Don’t be silly chumps
Just purse your lips and whistle – that’s the thing.
And…always look on the bright side of life…
Always look on the light side of life…
For life is quite absurd
And death’s the final word
You must always face the curtain with a bow.
Forget about your sin – give the audience a grin
Enjoy it – it’s your last chance anyhow.
So always look on the bright side of death
Just before you draw your terminal breath
Life’s a piece of shit
When you look at it
Life’s a laugh and death’s a joke, it’s true.
You’ll see it’s all a show
Keep ’em laughing as you go
Just remember that the last laugh is on you.
And always look on the bright side of life…
Always look on the right side of life…
(Come on guys, cheer up!)
Always look on the bright side of life…
Always look on the bright side of life…
(Worse things happen at sea, you know.)
Always look on the bright side of life…
(I mean – what have you got to lose?)
(You know, you come from nothing – you’re going back to nothing.
What have you lost? Nothing!)
Always look on the right side of life…

These are troubling times for Kass. It’s hard. Coming to the realization of what you have lost and what troubles you have gained. It all comes to this.
Vizlet was right. Kass needs to confront this head on. He needs to truly accept his new body and mind fully. He can’t move on until he does. It’s very painful, but it’s for the best. Be strong Kass.
Hello ! i just stumbled on your comic and i wonder, what’s your update scheduel ? i figured it was something around 1 or 2 pages each month..
By the way, love it so far !
Updates can be from 2-4 pages a month. If you really love the comic and check it every 5 minutes to see if it’s up (I can’t stop…), rest assured that normal times it comes out are usually at night or in the morning.
Thank you so much for such a quick answer
i’m really addicted to this comic
i think i’ll find a way to donate a dollar or two (i live in europe so 2 dollars is around 1 and a half euros or something
May i ask, is there any way to get notifications when someone answers your message ?
That is Valsalia’s Patreon, for $1 dollar per comic page upload, you get to see all sorts of extra stuff, plus you will be pinged in email when a new page is up! Pretty sweet deal if you ask me.
There are very personnal reasons for it, but i don’t think i can give out money for it yet.
Maybe in a few years i’ll meet Val Salia and give him/her a buttload o’ money
It is one dollar a page, but on Patreon you can set a maximum amount to give per month. I’m not certain how that affects what Patreon content you can see, but it works if you want to give a certain amount per month to the author.
This is so real, so tragic, so heart breaking…THAT POOR LITTLE STUPID FLY, TRYING TO GET INSIDE THAT LAMP….the sadness is ovewelming…oh, also Kass is fucked for good, I guess.
One morning, when Gregor Samsa woke from troubled dreams, he found himself transformed in his bed into a horrible vermin. He lay on his armour-like back, and if he lifted his head a little he could see his brown belly, slightly domed and divided by arches into stiff sections.
So on the one hand, Samsa is an enormous beetle. On the other hand, he will later find out that his father is the Mountain, a character from a series of books that has not yet been written as Samsa lives in 1915.
This is the bold reinvention The Metamorphosis needs.
I hear ya comrade. Existential dread is a hell of a thing. Just grabs ahold of you and refuses to let go. It’s a heavy stone that sometimes takes a bit to shift off of your chest, but it always feels better when you get help another shift the stone off theirs.
And if the favor is returned, crawling out becomes so much easier. But even if not, we can find strength in turning to hope and faith. (And I do not mean the strippers of the same name). Self discipline is a cornerstone as well.
From what we’ve seen, the yinglet equivalent of chocolate would be a bucket of live clams—though I can imagine there could be some prized, rare variety that’s extra slimy and gooey as it slides down the gullet and sets off more endorphin analogs.
Whew! Its a good thing Kass is still living in the refugee barracks where he is surrounded by people who can watch over and support him, and not in a room with a balcony that leads to a shear cliff and keeps him more isolated from his people and closer to his own horrible thoughts…
Wait a minute ….
In other news,
Has Isher become more busty? (No complaints!) :3
And she must be really worried to not be embarrassed to be seen by the garrison half-starkers :b
http://www.valsalia.com/comic/out-of-placers/oops-43/
Apparently the fault lays in my memory as apparently I remember women to be less “busty” than what they actually are.
Perhaps I focus too much on personality and am not as much of a hound-dog as I thought I was :b
Dunno, if you look back at the page where Kass got his new uniform & emblem, he is clearly able to grab the material on the front, so theoretically should be able to manhandle some buttons.
I think i need a Yannit in my life. The simple minded but wonderfully smart bug could make things so much better for Kass with her simple ways. Sure she won’t understand the situation fully, but the feeling she’ll read and her response to it will be honest.
So, I would think that the smart thing to do with a traumatized person would be not letting them sleep alone in a room. A friend there when nightmares happen would be reassuring
And that is how the cookie crumbles. You become a yinglet the SECOND most pathetic somewhat intelligent creature (First being a minor yinglet), from being one of the most successful creatures (Hoomonz) and you break down when you realize you can’t change back.
it would take some seriously giant round iron … knees if when they find the cure something happens to it in a completely predictable when it rains it, well that umbrella aint gunna cut it, and turns Lopin human.
Hey Viz could try and snatch it at the last minute. possibly Lopin blocks her and gets shoved into the whatever it is. That does mean Viz is much much colder than she is made out to be but it could be someone else who tries that. Maybe our good ol pal eyeball eater
There’s a quote I read once which went: “To create a compelling story, first start with great characters, and then put them through hell.” It seems Valsalia has been following this advice. It’ll be interesting to see how Kass handles this latest mental breakdown.
Also, Ran’s got himself a whole floor? Either Ran’s research projects have provided Viracroix with some fairly lucrative returns, or else Viracroix must rival Ran in the intensity of his scientific curiosity.
Shoo Badman! You go away! You leave the poor depressed yinglet alone!
In other dialog that is not based upon your name :
As long as we are alive, we have the ability to make choices and make a difference. It just sucks having to push forward with a mill-stone wrapped around your neck. It is perseverance and our perspective of life, that gets us though the times of strife, and carries us into better times.
I’d quote a long bit from house of leaves here. Its a great book that you can find yourself somewhere in the pages no matter who you are. I feel as though this is relevant to kass at this point.
“This much I’m certain of: it doesn’t happen immediately. You’ll finish [the book] and that will be that, until a moment will come, maybe in a month, maybe a year, maybe even several years. You’ll be sick or feeling troubled or deeply in love or quietly uncertain or even content for the first time in your life. It won’t matter. Out of the blue, beyond any cause you can trace, you’ll suddenly realize things are not how you perceived them to be at all. For some reason, you will no longer be the person you believed you once were. You’ll detect slow and subtle shifts going on all around you, more importantly shifts in you. Worse, you’ll realize it’s always been shifting, like a shimmer of sorts, a vast shimmer, only dark like a room. But you won’t understand why or how. You’ll have forgotten what granted you this awareness in the first place
…
You might try then, as I did, to find a sky so full of stars it will blind you again. Only no sky can blind you now. Even with all that iridescent magic up there, your eye will no longer linger on the light, it will no longer trace constellations. You’ll care only about the darkness and you’ll watch it for hours, for days, maybe even for years, trying in vain to believe you’re some kind of indispensable, universe-appointed sentinel, as if just by looking you could actually keep it all at bay. It will get so bad you’ll be afraid to look away, you’ll be afraid to sleep.
Then no matter where you are, in a crowded restaurant or on some desolate street or even in the comforts of your own home, you’ll watch yourself dismantle every assurance you ever lived by. You’ll stand aside as a great complexity intrudes, tearing apart, piece by piece, all of your carefully conceived denials, whether deliberate or unconscious. And then for better or worse you’ll turn, unable to resist, though try to resist you still will, fighting with everything you’ve got not to face the thing you most dread, what is now, what will be, what has always come before, the creature you truly are, the creature we all are, buried in the nameless black of a name.
And then the nightmares will begin.” ~ Johnny Truant.
Oooooo, that nice little Yannit symbol: Kass can’t get into something, it’s either a realization tied to the lighting up dream and probably an enlightenment as denoted by the flames which is a symbol of intellect and spirit in many cases, or that something is acceptance, I think it’s the first one. He’s being stopped by an obvious barrier, perhaps that barrier is his reluctance to accept his situation? Perhaps the lighting up is like the spirit of that one cool Yinglet. Either way excited to see more.
This is basically what having ADHD, aspergers (A form of high functioning autism), and co-morbid disorders like depression and anxiety can be like for some. I would know; however, I don’t yell at all. I moreover silently freak-out in a corner. Sadly, if I don’t act in certain ways I feel the way Kass does: Like you’re in the wrong skin, like nothing was truly meant for you and that there’s nothing you can do to stop it. What’s really bad is that, acting certain ways can be like a drug, and most people shuns me for my behavior (I live in a strict Christian-laden places). Ehh, well. Sorry for the sob-story, but I thought it was relevant. Anyway, on a less dark note: this comic is hilarious! Sorry, I couldn’t think of anything cheerful. Well, have a lovely day, yo.
@Val : Can we get a montage or something of Kass trying to use his ball and chain (rope?) weapon he used to use as a human, whilst as a yinglet?
Curious if he can pick it up and if with his new lighter body, if he can’t Indiana Jones a couple wall protrudemenfs and spy on the boss of the Ivenmoths balcony above :3
I imagine Kass swinging the morningstar, twirling the ball faster and faster to intimidate her opponent. Kass loses control and the momentum of the twirl sends her flying, like someone who forgets to let go of a bowling ball.
Having read the argonian comics as well, I must wonder how our former dragon born friend would act around children. I assume that his/her new form would include child rearing skills as a must for someone growing up as they did.
I’m not going to post in /trash/, but here is some conversation fodder:
How many yings does it take to replace a lightbulb?
What happened to EEY? Will he attack Lopin, is he long-gone, did he find anozher zing?
Can yinglets swim well? We know they probably float.
Do you read Chasing Bolide or any other spinoffs? http://www.furaffinity.net/view/15534212
I’m hooked on your webcomic !
I love the characters, the tone it has, the style it has, it’s all perfect for me
exept for one thing
i’m impatient to see the rest of the story
But on a more serious note, I am quite glad i found this. I also hope you’ll be able to make a living out of this and maybe, just maybe be known by more than 400-1000 people, and i’m REALLY glad to be one of ’em
basically
i liek dis, dis gud, i liek.
I think it is more of a whenever the page is ready kind of thing, though this comic does take longer to release new content, the quality of artwork is very high for the amount of content being produced.
Apparently it’s 2-4 pages per month according to Sal/Val’s patreon.
I just wanna know if a second page is coming this month or if there isn’t, i just want a reason, even if it is dumb, i just want a reason behind it.
I don’t mind patience for something I enjoy, as a creator with an audience it must be stress inducing thinking your torturing fans for not releasing and you don’t feel complete with their work, or that the story isn’t going as intended. as viewers, I always try to be supportive and don’t mind being patient, this is because the more time put in, the better the results, and i realize that the creator doesn’t even have to do this or things for us, so I’ll always try to be appreciative (Not saying your NOT doing this, you just asked a simple question, but i just wanted to state my philosophy)
I get your logic, i personally think i can be quite patient, even though i probably am not..
The only thing i ask for when the update schedule changes or something happens is to be informed about what happened. I really do not give a damn wether the reason is vacation or stuff like that, i just wanna know.
I would have REALLY liked to donate a dollar or two to Sal/Val because phew, he/she/it deserves it !
Ey there! Yes, this month has been particularly wild non-comic-wise, but I’m crunching out the colors, shading and text of the next page today, so I’m planning on posting the next one today or tomorrow. Monday at the absolute latest. And planning on doing more updates next month than this one!
Thanks for answering ! Take your time if you need, no need for rushing things out, also i hope things go or are better non-comic-wise. Have a good day/night !
(I am quite bad at talking to people in general due to me having Asperger’s, but i hope you got what i wanted to say anyways).
Oh, totally understood. I’ve been annoyed that I haven’t been able to spend more time drawing comics this month too, especially during this important part in the story! Things are great real-life-wise, just super-busy this month! It’s why I’m running my Patreon post-based, rather than month-based, so that I don’t charge people the same amount when I have a less productive month, like this one. Anyway, next page comin’ up!

Makes you wonder though, does Kassen use She/Her pronouns, or He/Him?
Pretty sure this is before “preferred pronouns” were a thing. Still, Kass is in the position to make it a thing.
Kass is a tough dude. He’ll manage. But, right now, he’s just gotta deal.
Sometimes, you just gotta crumple up for a while because you got some feelings that you gotta work through.
No one can be strong all the time.
Self-control.exe et al has shut down for repairs. Please enjoy the elevator muzak in the meantime.
I imagine his screaming must sound like a dog’s squeaky toy in distress.
It’s tragi-larious, lol.
Okay. ‘Tragi-larious’ is a thing now. It is awesome.
It’s like the Tragedorable Halifax harbor mascot, Splodie.
Too soon! 😛
Almost a century, wow.
Skoon, this whole thread is freakin’ hilarious.

You are right comrade! I believe we have a hit LP in the making! If only we can get Val to direct/produce for us. :b
These are troubling times for Kass. It’s hard. Coming to the realization of what you have lost and what troubles you have gained. It all comes to this.

Also, I really like the first person views. I think they are very important to make the audience see just what it is like to live as a Yinglet.
Good to hear! Others have been saying that, so I decided to work in a few more when possible.

You can always give a dollar and then after a couple pages if you decide to you can un-subscribe. That’s still a way to give, even temporarily!
I hope we’ll get another page this month, it’s been 19 days since the last comic page..
It is one dollar a page, but on Patreon you can set a maximum amount to give per month. I’m not certain how that affects what Patreon content you can see, but it works if you want to give a certain amount per month to the author.
The “Comments RSS” link underneath the comic will notify you of all new comments for the linked page:

I’m not set up ready to donate yet either, so I vote on TWCs during the first week of every month for OOPs.
Can yinglets eat chocolate? Because I recommend ALL OF IT.
Can’t help but feel that might make things worse somehow.
Though that gave me a thought: Yinglet + Coffee?
It must be dark chocolate, not that sugared-up gas-station/convenience store junkfood. 😀
I think that yinglet + coffee = dead yinglet, lol.
more like ‘sooner dead yinglet’.
Could be worse. If yinglet + coffee = bad, how about yinglet + Red Bull? xD
Fun fact: Yinglets can reach the speed of sound if given Four Loko.
This is so real, so tragic, so heart breaking…THAT POOR LITTLE STUPID FLY, TRYING TO GET INSIDE THAT LAMP….the sadness is ovewelming…oh, also Kass is fucked for good, I guess.
A fly bouncing off an invisible barrier without learning anything can be a metaphor for so, SO much.
From existential futility to how dumb things are just funny.
It could be worse…
One morning, when Gregor Samsa woke from troubled dreams, he found himself transformed in his bed into a horrible vermin. He lay on his armour-like back, and if he lifted his head a little he could see his brown belly, slightly domed and divided by arches into stiff sections.
+1 for appropriate Kafka.
On the other hand, that seems like a situation where Yannit could at least offer some pointers.
Having read Game of Thrones more recently, Gregor Samsa made me think it’s the love child of Gregor Clegane and Sansa Stark.
So on the one hand, Samsa is an enormous beetle. On the other hand, he will later find out that his father is the Mountain, a character from a series of books that has not yet been written as Samsa lives in 1915.
This is the bold reinvention The Metamorphosis needs.
#7 The feels, man. Been there a few times.
I feel really bad for Elim.
There is nohing like listening to someone cry for help and not having the words…
Also, seconded on [ThisAdamGuy]’s recommendation of chocolate.

Existentialism is a tough subject if you haven’t sat down and thought for a while. After that, it isn’t TOO hard to handle.
Innuendos, HOOO!
I think her chest is just being bound less tightly by that ‘bra’ than it is in her uniform.
http://www.valsalia.com/comic/out-of-placers/oops-43/
Apparently the fault lays in my memory as apparently I remember women to be less “busty” than what they actually are.
Perhaps I focus too much on personality and am not as much of a hound-dog as I thought I was :b
How dare you, you non-pervert.
I know!!! -_- ! I’m not even ashamed of it for some reason. I think I am actually feeling *shudder* “proud!”
I can no longer show myself in degenerate society! Blast my moral affinity to decency and polite behavior!
T_T
This seems appropriate.

What, Mass Effect?
Yeah, you right.
Important Question:
Can Yinglets touch their chests? Specially, the long-armed flavor of yinglet, such as Kassen.
If they can’t, I guess that would just be one more reason for communal living.
I just looked through several pages to see…
Without anothers assistance, it appears that Kass and Lopin could only button a shirt using one’s feet!
Would a ying start with the top button, or the bottom one?
Dunno, if you look back at the page where Kass got his new uniform & emblem, he is clearly able to grab the material on the front, so theoretically should be able to manhandle some buttons.
Ahh, right.
http://www.valsalia.com/comic/out-of-placers/oop006/
I must’ve forgotten about shoulder blades!
I’m going to talk to moths that way now. It seems like a good plan.
Dang, this just makes me want Kass to have a chance to become human again even more. I would love if he’s able to become human again, somehow.
And that is how the cookie crumbles. You become a yinglet the SECOND most pathetic somewhat intelligent creature (First being a minor yinglet), from being one of the most successful creatures (Hoomonz) and you break down when you realize you can’t change back.
Then again, Kassen could simply *think* he can’t change back, and assumes that’s the case. We could be surprised.
There’s indeed a lot of metaphorical cookies crumbling at the moment
I like so many of the side characters AND the main character. Sigh, so much enjoyment.
it would take some seriously giant round iron … knees if when they find the cure something happens to it in a completely predictable when it rains it, well that umbrella aint gunna cut it, and turns Lopin human.
Hey Viz could try and snatch it at the last minute. possibly Lopin blocks her and gets shoved into the whatever it is. That does mean Viz is much much colder than she is made out to be but it could be someone else who tries that. Maybe our good ol pal eyeball eater
also how the heck can you dump so much emotion into a comedy comic where the tragedy is both comedic and completely sad at the same time?

You make my face confused http://www.evilmilk.com/pictures/Pug_Face.jpg
I just have a bipolar friend who writes everything for me, same as everyone.
The place is more vertical than horizontal! Each floor in the upper sections here is only about the size of a small office building floor.
Oh look! The shreds of his humanity! Was wondering where those went off to! 😛
Ah yes, the realization that though you are alive, the old you is dead.
Oh, despite the name I’m not related to Shadman, I’ve been using this name since 1996, he can change his.
I may consider purchasing that book…
Just remember, that no matter how confused, or sad, or angry, or helpless you feel,
you are not alone.
Even though you are not alone, it always feels like it.
LOL, mandatory link: https://youtube.com/watch?v=4zLfCnGVeL4
Uh, what is it? I hate clicking EweToob links without proper notice of what it contains. Hint ?
I usually do give a hint!
‘Tis a music video.
Hello darkness my old friend…
And thanks for the cool link, I’ll take that as a hint to try out StartMail. 😉
Haha; that’s actually been a page I’ve had planned for a long time. It’ll happen, eventually!
I imagine Kass swinging the morningstar, twirling the ball faster and faster to intimidate her opponent. Kass loses control and the momentum of the twirl sends her flying, like someone who forgets to let go of a bowling ball.
Dammit, Yannit.
I just spent till 5 AM reading all of your comic, i really love it, and I hope to see more 🙂
)
Oh, I ain’t stopping anytime soon!
Great comic! thanks for sharing
Having read the argonian comics as well, I must wonder how our former dragon born friend would act around children. I assume that his/her new form would include child rearing skills as a must for someone growing up as they did.
http://boards.4chan.org/trash/thread/10591554
new thread
i hope you find this oke valsalia
I’m not going to post in /trash/, but here is some conversation fodder:
How many yings does it take to replace a lightbulb?
What happened to EEY? Will he attack Lopin, is he long-gone, did he find anozher zing?
Can yinglets swim well? We know they probably float.
Do you read Chasing Bolide or any other spinoffs?
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/15534212
That thread seems to have a major lack of artwork of Lopin. Overall, more yinglet artwork needs to be made available :).
WE NEED THAT SECOND PAGE
In a slightly more serious tone, When’s the next page coming up ? or is there only one page this month ?
‘Tis a great 55th page ! (I’m french so this is why i’m commenting at such odd hours)
