The shot just hit the faaaan~ (\ ^w^ /)
I love how the Yinglet that first gets hit then crushed vanishes from the wide pan shot. The invisible maid does quick work. đŸ˜€
Elim stopped them out of existence.
That or videogame logic. The body despawned and didn’t have any loot drop.
The body is behind him. if you look behind Elim on the 9th panel, you can see the body on the floor behind him.
That’s cuz Val updated the page.
Let the bodies hit the floor~!
Yeah, missed a couple details in the first upload! : P

MACE AND SHANK
*SWINGS MACE WOTH MALICIOUS INTENT*
And HIS NAME IS JOHN CENA!!!!
-TUT-TURUT-TUUUUUUUUUUUUH!!!!-
EXCEPT IN THIS CASE EVERYONE CAN SEE ELIM PRETTY WELL ON ACCOUNT OF IT BEING A NARROW ALLEYWAY AND HE’S COMPARATIVELY LARGER
Elim is gonna lose the fight if he don’t get help. No way that gut wound is gonna not kill him if he keeps fighting even if he beats the Yinglets that remain.
Pretty sure the fight is over. It’s been stated pretty clearly yinglets have fragile bones relative to humans. Elim’s got an adrenaline fueled direct hit on every one of his attackers with a mid length spiked mace. That would be enough to fracture human bones much less birdrats.
From the stomp and crunch, we can pretty much rule out fuzzy brown yeeeee. Brown orange stripe should have his chest caved in and left shoulder destroyed with a hit hard enough to send it flying. Big white might have been “ok” given that the hit was at an awkward angle, but the whump and splat does not bode well.
The only one that’s not explicitly (or heavily implied) to be a mess of broken bones right now is brakka. The flashback could be masking his escape or overstating the hit, and after how bad things have gone for his capture squad, I don’t think he’d be sticking around to fight an enraged soldier alone.
Yinglets do have fragile bones, but what a impact does is transfer energy to the object targeted, and in this case a Yinglet has little actual mass to transfer into. Brown orange stripe was hit in the sternum, which is the strongest place to take a hit (why seat belts cross your chest) which could be a fatal hit (broken bone entering the heart) or not (because its made of Yinglet, as Kass pointed out) its the same thing as seeing the mailman kicking a dog, they rarely are permanently injured by it due to this effect. So yeah, not wanting Elim to die (Kass wouldn’t take it well) but not seeing a way out here other than the Yinglets being dumb and attacking head on unless Kass does something, or help arrives to save Elim.
Mailmen don’t usually hit dogs with ~10lb iron/steel rods though. Just guesstimating that weight, could be more. Also need to say that no matter how light the yings are, hollow bones are more fragile than solid bones.
In the case of either Yinglets or Dogs, its not the weight of the object, but its velocity. What we have is a short mace swung by Elim who currently has a gut wound. But just for fun, pick up a sledgehammer, and try to hit a homerun with it. You cant. its not that the mace don’t have energy, but that its a weapon designed to be effective against armor, using the mass of the enemy to resist the kinetic energy of the mace. Its just a question of how hard a injured Elim is capable of swinging it (velocity), vs how much energy it takes to accelerate a guessing 40 lb Yinglet(Mass) to cause fatal injuries. On the other hand, the stomp attack..yeah that one was for keeps as Elim’s weight just crushed that dude.
you are 100% incorrect, friend. Its both the mass, AND the velocity, of the impact. Delta p – momentum, the scalar product of mass and velocity. In this case the elastic part of the impact is the body we are sinking the mace into. You’ve even pointed this out yourself, commenting on the kinetic energy. Well, E sub K is equal to half the product of the mass and the square of the velocity. You change the mass, you change the kinetic energy. You change the velocity, you change the kinetic energy.
Strictly speaking, for impact of rigid objects into soft squishy bodies, other factors start being really important too, like the relative density of the squishy object vs the rigid object, how elastic either of them are, location of any important areas like even squishier organs… it gets really complicated, really quickly.
Absolutely agree. Though those hit until now staying down is becoming irrelevant to the outcome of the Battle, as the Boss-Guy Yinglet got behind him.
Don’t forget, he also as a crap load of adrenalin pumping through him, so that mace isn’t likely being swing with any slow amount of speed.
Its that squishiness Blu3wolf that I’m concerned with. a Mace isn’t a weapon swung with a lot of velocity but more like a hammer, with the weight at the end giving awesome crushing power against armored opponents as the flashback correctly shows. It however is not a good weapon against light, unarmed agile foes. In the case of yinglets, they are born with few actual stiff places on their bodies where a mace or hammer would allow the mace’s inertia to become crushing damage. Yeah they’d fold like a wet piece of spaghetti around the mace as they were swept off their feet, but seeing how flexible Kass has shown a Yinglet to be, might as well be trying to beat a rope being held loosely in place by one end. It’d just absorb the energy of the impact without a lot of damage. If I had to take on a pack of Yinglets, I’d chose a Pike, or even a bowstaff, allowing me to clear a wide area while giving a lot of velocity to the end of the weapon to deal a lot more energy into a impact with a lighter target.
Think the flashback may be the backstory of why Kass saved Elim during the war after he was injured. Kass was flat oh his ass, then Elim saved him, now we are seeing history repeat itself. Question is when was Elim injured in the war, and did Kass save him through a act of courage, or was Elim just the last man standing after he won the fight?
For the Yinglets to win, all they had to do was hold a knife to Kass’s throat, then wait for Elim to bleed out or just to run away with Kass in tow to a safer location, was kinda dumb to fight Elim in a place of his choosing. But that’s Yinglet strategy, I guess. Emotion before logic.
The other yinglets have no way of knowing that would work. The concept of a human willing to risk themselves for a “Scav” is something they actively disbelieved when it was pointed out to them.
Think they are familiar with the idea of a holdup though (shown in OOP prologue 20) stealing from or cornering prey is a thing that street Yinglets do. In this case though, its just being done badly.
Right, but that they would need to hold up the human, who’s currently aware of them, armed, and swinging.
In order to use Kass as a hostage against the rampaging giant human who is inexplicably still alive and way, way, angrier than he should be, they would have to know that he is a human who values the life of a yinglet above his own: A concept they thought kass was deluded for even considering. To them that makes about as much sense as trying to hold someones shoe hostage. Yeah, I might LIKE the shoe but I’m not gonna die for it. Thats how they think humans see yinglets…probably with no small amount of justification
The fight should have been over in frame 11. Elim is swinging the mace away from Brakka, who is so close his eyebrow whiskers are almost touching Elim. Happens again at frame 13 when Elim hits the big white Yinglet. The only thing that saves Elim is plot armor as his whole left side is wide open for attack during this time.
And also, Kass is not just a Yinglet, but a Ivenmoth officer, currently in uniform. It’d certainly be worth trying in any similar circumstance. Even if they had no faith in Elim having a friendship with Kass, they would know the value of her patch on her uniform.
Thats assuming this group knows that much about the rulers of the city.
Kass herself actually gave that away in oop 90 6th frame.
Then again, yinglets is also not known to be smart, and even if they would be, Kass … i think referred to it as having to shift or pierce through fog or something like that?
So Kass describing things to them might easily not have gotten through that fog yet, and this is a fighting situation, where thinking tends to go on a backburner even among humans, for the benefit of reflex-based behavior, instinctual or trained.
Catelf, so far we haven’t got much into the heads of male yinglets minus in Learn to Live, but not sure about how cannon that story is and even so, Mori’Rai is a highly unusual Yinglet. Females are stated to be drawn to seek the protection of Males in times of stress (100% of the awake time minus clams) but what is the male version of this? Most creatures human or otherwise have instincts, just not sure how much a Yinglet is ruled by theirs.
It’s been clearly stated Yinglets do not seriously try to harm one another, nor do they know Kass was human. They never seriously believed Elim cared about Kass enough to protect them.
Adrenaline is a hell of a drug. Elim’s one tough sob, that’s for sure.
Ye sit is, though when all is said and done and he gets medical, he is going to be a wreck for the next couple of weeks in recovery.
I’d say couple of weeks is what he would get with the modern antibiotics. With late-medieval-like medicine he will inevitably get an infection, which he is unlikely to survive, and if he survives waiting for infection to run its’ course and then recovering from that is couple of months at least.
It’s not quite “inevitable”. People routinely survived serious battlefield injuries if blood loss didn’t get them, and even surviving something like Elim’s wound is hardly unheard of (one particular roman medic listed a remarkable success rate for surgery on abdominal wounds in the gladiators he patched up). Infection didn’t start really reaping soldiers by the millions until firearms showed up and completely changed the nature of the wounds suffered by combatants.
Oookay, Whitey is definitely a little bit insane. That expression in the first panel is terrifying >_<
Relative to the kids in the last panel, nah. He looks tame.
Spend any time around youngish kids and it will quickly become obvious that they are adorable and innocent yet somehow simultaneously the world’s greatest psychopaths
Also I wanna see your avatar pic fullsize, LINK IT SO THE WHOLE CLASS CAN SEE
I linked it in the Discord server a while back, and I can do it again for you.
Okay, so THAT’s the big white one’s quirk. Dude likes him some killin’.
What the fuck is wrong with those kids?
Violence is entertaining? Before we invented moving pictures, people would attend public torture & execution with picnic lunches & kids in tow (still goes on in some parts of the world). Wheeeeeeeee!
Not to mention violence against non-humans, even sapient ones, will lead to a far less harsh age rating for a movie, game etc. even today.
Remember also that this is a medieval-level society. It isn’t like the kids can watch TV or listen to rock & roll. Just a little over 200 years ago, during the French Revolution, public executions were considered entertainment for the WHOLE FAMILY to attend.
Go Elim!
Kass is more stunned than the others.
Take a step back people, Elims got the crazies.
Duality from slip not for this page for sure.
Love it!
Slipknot
Kass lacking his usual red shorts on under the jacket might be a continuity art derp but it might be on purpose, suggesting that Brakka wasn’t wasting time before Elim showed up.
Kass doesn’t appear to be wearing the shorts before the attack.
Noticed that too but didn’t really wanna think about it.
What language did Kass and Elim originally speak? I’m pretty sure Elim translates to “badass”!
I’m starting to like those kids; they appreciate a good slaughter.
.A . Jeeeeebus Elim doesn’t fuck around. I never thought Mr. ‘I loved Perdie the Tiplod’ would have such a violent streak.
FUCK YEAH, ELIM, SNAP THOSE LITTLE BIRD BONES.
Crazy Eyes is definitely dead, hoping the same for the big fellow and blue eyes.
Man, where is Isher or Yannit when you need them?
You know, it occurs me that Isher would actually be pretty much the perfect anti-Yinglet combatant. Yinglet combat strategy revolves around surrounding the enemy and attacking from behind. Well, Isher is both large, requiring more Yinglets to effectively box in, AND has a long, muscular tail that could easily be used to sweep aside any assailants from behind, especially small fragile little ratbirds.
Yannit or indrels in general Are also morphologically better than humans for that purpose, because of extra two hands on the back. It seems we don’ know much about their reflexes\neurophysiology (and extrapolating from insects dosen’t seem to be helpful – some insects have very fast reactions, others – vert slow ones), so we cannot be sure how they would fare in the battle (though fantastic intelligent insects tend to have faster reaction than humans).
On the one hand, we need to get info out of Brakka. On the other hand, Elim squishing yinglets is extremely satisfying.
Brakka is now behind Elim…
If the flashbacks are anything to go by, Elims ’bout to get stabbed.
Brakka is behind. Sure. However:
Brown is down for keeps.
Whitey just took a headshot, and is not going to be doing much any time soon, even if Whitey ever gets back up at all.
Carrot-top there might have taken a possibly-survivable blow (bent into a bit and has low mass, so it’s possible that’s not completely fatal), but at a minimum is dealing with a rather nasty case of “wind knocked out” and will not be in this fight for the next several seconds (and could have a case of “collapsed rib cage” “broken back” or “dead” very easily).
Which means Elim only has one opponent, at least for the next several seconds. Really hard for Brakka to surround someone all by himself.
If that flashback indicates what actually happened, you don’t just get up from a blow to the head like that. Especially not when the blow was given by a spiked mace.

Kass was right to be scared of those kids!
Lets get ready to ruuuuuuuuumb…….oh wait, its over.
So there was a time Elim saved Kass in the war.
oh bugga-booh, no time to get all nostalgic Kassy. Else our poor Elim is gonna get backstabbed by the bug breath bastard AGAIN!
Welp, hope nobody expected those yinglets to be recurring characters.
My God I just love how forceful you made that curb stomp feel. That is impressive!
Hey I wasn’t involved, that was alllll Elim there
This Kass will help.
Slight purplish grey is gone with that chrunch, and Kass looks like a damsel in distress with a somewhat of an “oh, my” expression and a hand up to the throat and chin … hand?
That’s a foot!
^_^
Orange Hair is gone as well. On a human that hit would have cracked ribs and possibly caused some serious breathing issues.
On something as lightly built and fragile as a yinglet, it’s utterly lethal.
And Green Eyes isn’t looking too clever either after getting a mace to the skull. The upper jaw shattering might have absorbed some of the impact, but at the very least he’s going to be out of the fight with a concussion and possibly more serious brain damage. Also, that eye looks about ready to pop from its socket, but that may be the least of his problems at this point.
I disagree on orange hair, as 1: there is no crunch and 2, it is more swept aside due to the yinglets being so bendy.
Really, i think whitey is worse off, as that was a direct hit to a head that had no possibility to get swept away by the impact.
Top 10 most brutal anime beatdowns of all time.
Has to be somewhere between five and eight at least.
yup elim’s gonna die next panel, dude is sneaking up from behind :/
A Little bit of the old ultra violence on display here, who would have thought that actual military training trumps enthusiasm any day of the week.
of course he’s not wearing nearly enough armour to ward off the backstab coming his way and brakka has clearly taken rogue levels so that sneak attack damage is gonna hurt.
I’ve said it before and will say it again: given the situation when they were drafted – mass conscription when many civilians already thought the war was lost – their military training is likely to be lackluster. They may have some practical experience during the war and after but no additional formal training.
So it’s more case of experience trumping enthusiasm, not some special military training.
3 of 4 down, unless yinglets are much tougher than they look. But Brakka’s still up, and I would count him as one of the more dangerous yinglets we’ve ever seen. He’s circling to Elim’s left as Elim deals with the other two. I have a bad feeling.
