ah, the sweet, innocent, blood-spattered delights of youth…
Brakka is already moving in behind.
Yeah but if yinglets are as frail as they’re made out to be, at least two of his buddies are already dead.
Considering that mace, and the way he’s swinging with trained vigour, they’re not just probably dead, they’re totally dead. Curbstomped one is crushed, the orange-haired one’s ribs have been powdered, and unless Yinglet skulls are made of carbon fiber and their brains are small enough to have a thick, cushiony layer of impact-resistant gell, white-o’s got probably severe brain hemmorhaging at least.
Hmm. Brakka is behind him again, not good. But Green-eyes has at minimum a cracked jaw or orbital socket, that whump-smack doesn’t bode well but it’s a matter of who precisely. Orange-hair took that opening smack pretty well, haven’t seen anyone say so, just debates of force transferrence, so I think Hate It guy is back in in a moment. Got some distance though. The anchoring of Grewn-eyes was enough to do some pin force with the mace, so he should get his back to thw wall, if it’s possible right now. Might not be.
Yeah once you see combat it’s not… quite the same person that leaves, all my comment on the previous page meant, and this shows it pretty well. Pretty confident Kass will try and save him, though she’s still quite awkward with this body. This is too perfect a setup. Some cinematics are going down, high quality update as always.
Compliments to the “chef” and all that <3 and Raptie, the "sous chef." Excellent brain food, thank you thank you.
if “bird bones” is accurate, the only life left in short hair and blue eyes is corpse twitch, and orange hair is suffocating on its own crushed chest cavity.
so, pretty brutal all round.
Yet orange hair’s chest seems fine in the wideshot, don’t have a good angle really to assess if there’s anything ruptured, could be he’s sluggish for a yinglet, but he is in aggressive stance still. It may be their elasticity in joint design may be similar to weasels and their family, hollow bones or not. Good design for leaps. Light weight means they survive more falls and blows, which is why a young wolf fears the weasel. Too fast. Too mean.
You see orange hair on page 93 get sent flying and come back to be the last in line in the first wide shot here. So, they are possibly too light to be broken with a blunt force if there’s not an anchoring or anvil effect. Like blue eyes’ aforementioned possible injuries that lead to an easy target for Elim’s rage. Pretty sure carrot top there ain’t in prime condition, either that or he’s gained an appropriate sense of caution. He’s in the back, ferreting back in.
Yeah, the implication for blue eyes is clearer to me now. Sianara, we hardly knew ye, ya filthy animal. Still think you were crazy aggressive to have been exiled with a bod like dat.
Orange Hair’s isn’t fine though, as it has about 2 inches of metal buried into it.
????
Unless you for some reason mean cumulatively, I doubt the mace spikes are that big? Also no blood drops on the mace from that smack, when you see it in panel 13. The mace isn’t dangerous from it’s pointy bits, though that exists FOR armor, to make sharp bits sticking in. Primarily the mace crushes the bones of the opponent through some armoring, which the yinglets don’t have. It knocks them down keeping them disoriented, and you in control of the fight, if you’re skilled. It’s known with the club/modern day baton as a peace-keeping weapon that can easily be wielded non lethally, albeit with plenty of pain resulting. Not seen here. This is a rescue.
As for orange hair, and why I said anything at all. He was hit before. He got up before. I’d love if Elim just played tennis with that one for a bit while he deals with Brakka. The image makes me smile. Having that guy get up and erryone’s gone and he’s like, …. eep! scamper!
Brakka is behind him. Hopefully, Kass will take this opportunity to have Elim’s back in return.
On the one hand, Elim is scoring himself a nive pentakill !
On the other hand, if panel 11 is to be believed, Brakka DID slip behind him…
Whoa, watch that right arm, Elim! You don’t have your usual buckler there!
Actually, considering his fighting instincts by now, he should get that sleeve reinforced with something.
Also, thanks for the update!
the real problem with yings is their infectious bite the circle thing is relatively easy to beat, just pick them one by one, ensure a kill in ever strike, area of effect attacks and pole arms desined for swiping motions also work well enough as long as it isn’t in a closed space.
For the record how come, if they are that much of a problem, no one decided to go exterminatus on their rat asses, furthermore, they are treated as vermin because generally thei behave like verming, you don’t get to rob, burn, disturb and generally cause trouble without pissing someone off.
Because most Yinglets don’t cause that kind of trouble. Yinglets like Brakka’s little band of outlaws do, and it’s been mentioned before that matriarchs tend to let the humans know that absolutely no tears would be shed if any exiles in the vicinity were to come to sticky ends.
Still you have to consider the avarege human in medieval society point of view, anything and everthing potentially a threat should be eliminated, see, the point im making here, and i don’t quite remember if it was brought up before, is that the Valsalian(?) yinglets have it pretty good all things considered they are treated with a modicum of respect by the highter ups who have the real power, namely our knowledge seeking house ruler, and i can’t put my finger on were i picked this up but he appears to be rather close with the main matriarch like an old friend would be, on top of that he himself does his best on my perspective to remain humble, in the mesure of possibility given his circunstances and whatever happen to show at the doorstep, considering how they are and how they behave and are perceved they luked out, pure and simple.
the mace is kinda fucked up
like it goes from the blunt being the size of a big hand tothe size of a spoon just after beating the white one
Think the white dude is just that big. It isn’t the mace varying is size hitting same sized yinglets, but the variation in the Yinglets sizes making the mace appear larger or smaller in comparison.
Dude what? The white one is huge, he’s been towering over the others the whole time. Go back and look at #88, he’s like twice as big as all the others.
Holy crap was he a descendent of Poak??
Harsh rest in piece dude, blaming Brakka.
The image doesnt load
I’m not sure who but at least one of them is having a war flashback
Definitely Kass (we see it from his point of view). Elim may or may not be going through something similar but it’s not shown.
Oh he’s flashing on his solder days their is no way he’s not going to back up his budy in a yinglet body or not.
The image isnt loading, and Ive tried a few different times today. 😢
Oh, i really hoped that tall green-eyed Yinglet would hold out longer. Such an interesting character. He didn’t say a word, didn’t participate in molesting Kassen, …
Hopefully this isn’t the last time we see him.
Does he have a name btw? Or is it just green-eyes for now?
If Kass is to become a Matriarch in anything other than name only, she needs a few exceptional males around. Brakka is certainly someone who thinks about what it means to be a Yinglet, and is doing something (however misguided) to improve the condition of all Yinglets. The White dude (for lack of better name) also seemed to be not ruled by emotion or prone to outbursts from the voices in his head, which means he has enough brains to filter the insanity that is by definition what it means to be a Yinglet. I do wonder what the two did to become Exiles in the first place.
I share your curiosity, i can’t even begin to imagine what they could have done to be exiled, although i sorta feel like filtering the insanity is a bit too optimistic maybe he just know how to make it simmer down temporarily the look he gave in the first panel kinda points to that, if that’s the case still quite the leap, also he’s like twice the size of the others that is a physical advantage if i ever saw one, which make you wonder even more what he did.
For the Insanity bit, UmbraScythe’s Learn To Live series (On Deviant Art)really does a good job of explaining what it means to be a Yinglet, especially Ep 46 where Mori’Rai confronts a Yinglet patriarch on why there is stupid voices in his head. If you haven’t read that comic, I recommend it highly if you are a fan of Yinglet comics. For size being a outright advantage though, IDK unless size directly influences intelligence (in that case Patriarch Poak ought to be Yinglet Einstein), as their size gives them stealth and the ability to get by on less food.
Is more about resilience, and muscle strength,to an extent it actually can increase your speed, especially if its trained, plus an extra hit point juust to survive long enough to get behind a foe and stab him is a great advantage since most yings would be dead in a single hit and are already understimated, element of surprise for the win, really!
replying again, great comic suggestion, beggining to read, but seems solid. thanks
^_^ no worries, its a solid read (Learn To Live) and as for training, well, being a street yinglet is basically the same as what Spartans did to their kids in Ancient Greece. Its only the strong, the clever, and the quick that survive to become adults. If Yinglets wern’t so pathetic as a species, one would see many similarities between them and the ancient Spartans.
Ooooh that is a fantastic comic. Just binge read it XD
I wonder though, does ValSalia accept it as canon?
I mean, he/she knows about it and sometimes commented on pages.
The last panel basically told me that he didn’t ask the kids tp get any guards, Elim is alone in the fight other than potentially kass.
Gee, maybe Kass can remember her training and help Elim or lay there like a lump while he gets swarmed.
Kasses training applies her human body. Trying to use her training with a yinglet body that she is still not used to could lead to further injury. Especially since the training was probably primarily weapon based, i doubt she’d be effective. If she tries to help it would most likely be a liability.
Combat training is a lot less about how to use your body, and a lot more about how to not freeze up in a fight. Ergo, as Kass has frozen up in this fight, clearly his combat training STINKS.
Oooh, The fight gets real!! Cant wait to see the rest
“The image cannot be displayed because it contains errors…”
(sigh) I’ll check back in a while and cross my fingers.
“Hyeeheehee yer gonna die gonna die gonna die”.
Yeah, what a charming fellow. I suspect Elim has killed better.
I was just referring to the species as a whole, they are goofy and humorous for the most part and seeing the stark contrast among characters like Vizlet and Kass is really entertaining.
By the way, is there a way to edit/delete comments? i don’t want to spam comments just to correct myself
I wouldn’t recommend judging individuals by their species as a whole.
For some reason i’m not able to see this at all, is there any chance you could try uploading it again or something? Please i want to see what happens next!
click the link to the deviant art page on the art and extras page, its there too.
Had a deeling that grwen eyes had a screw loose. Crazy peoole just know each other when they see them. That looks like fun. Scav beating should be a national summer time event.
Like the Olympics.
Just like weasel stomping day
Absolutely
You can’t, unfortunately. Not with this software.
Well, actually, there is a plug-in that Valsalia could install that allows you to edit or delete a comment within 5 minutes after posting it. But he might be afraid to install it for fear that it might wipe the existing comments. (It isn’t supposed to, but it might be possible to mess up when installing it. I don’t know.)
Is that a Flashback in panels 9 & 10?
am i the only one who isnt seeing anything on this page comic wise
No I have that problem too. no image on this one.
I too am seeing nothing. If I right click on where the image should be and choose View Image, I am brought to a page with the following:
The image “https://www.valsalia.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/VS095555555.png” cannot be displaed because it contains errors.
I’m not seeing the comic here either. I’m not even seeing a “broken image” placeholder.
Dropping in to state that the image is missing on my end as well.
I do not see the comic. No broken image displayed, looks like a black rectangle with a bevel where the comic should be.
Given the females’ high status and role as breeders, how does yinglet society deal with females who are sterile or otherwise unable to reproduce?
Comic image link is broken. C’mon Val, you should be checking in time to time at least to read the posts so as to fix matters like this. This has been broken now for some several days.
What’s the armor technology level of the setting? That flashback has them in and facing off against some rather advanced plate armor, which wasn’t a common thing for the regular soldiers historically until the 1400s. The armor we see Elim wearing there would make him incredibly hard to deal with using just a sword.
Are we sure Kas and Elim were *just* simple levies?
Nothing is simple and basic when it comes to them two.
Ones the best friend of a madic man turn Scav and the other is magic turn man lady Scav. Nothing normal here.
It’s actually fairly cheap armor, simple, non-fitted plates strapped and sewn onto something like a gambeson. It was mass-produced in a hurry because at that point the country they lived in had realized that they were outnumbered something like 10:1 by a very imperialistic neighbor who wanted their iron mines and they needed to get everybody who could potentially hold some kind of weapon drafted into a militia. Didn’t help them in the end of course.
Val many times used adjective “pre-Renaissance” describing the setting. On the other hand a few things look more like Renaissance (like that planet chart in the Ran’s study), so it avareges around Late Middle Ages\ Early Renaissance, 1300-1400 CE.
Dinnish armour is a special case since they had too much iron for their own good. Others state would not give such armour to the raw recruits. But Val described it as “hastily assembled” and not properly fitted, so it wold have more in common with munition plate of English Civil War then with 15th century plate.
Ok.
I miss Vizlets cute little face. She needs to appear soon. And i swear! If Elim takes another blade to the back. I’m done!!
….. Not really.
I’m sure somewhere if you listen hard enough you canstill hear a faint YYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS echoing from her awakening Kass’s Maternal instincts from just a hour ago (comic time). I’m pretty sure she’s dancing a victory dance in her chambers in celebration as we speak.
Sure hope so.
Right now, you need to check your comic: the last page hasn’t been showing for the past few days. All we can see are the comments below the page number.
Try and be more specific on what device you’re on. Possibly what OS too, but only if you know or have the time. My kindle fire 5 and intel laptop work the site just fine. So its a coding issue with certain comps, or an issue with logged data on yer device. Try and delete website data and or cookies.
What browser do you use? I’m on a laptop with Windows 8.1, using Google Chrome, and I haven’t been able to see the comic for a couple of days. The webpage and navigation buttons and everything loads fine, it’s just the comic image that isn’t showing up.
And of course as soon as I post that everything starts working again. Ignore me.
The panels from page 89 on are no longer visible on the website. I don’t know if you are aware of this.
Check your device for updates or see above.
The image isn’t loading. Before someone asks, I’m on PC, and I tried on firefox, chrome and opera and neither of them it loaded. When I copied the link of the image and put it on a new tab, still nothing, but on firefox it said that the image couldn’t be loaded because it contained errors. And seeing the comments, I’m not the only one with this issue.
Before posting, I just checked on my phone, in the default browser app, and doesn’t load in there.
I literally just posted, and with the page reloading it worked. Ok then.
I keep waiting for Kass to snap and go Rambo. Lose her mind. Berserker. Go completely Librarian-Poo.
I keep forgetting that in-comic time has not been long for her, relative to how long we’ve all been reading it. So, she’s probably still more than a little off balance.
Kind of just noticing it myself, but I’m pretty sure what you say is accurate. However, it looks like that may be the flashback of when Kass witnessed his buddy get run-through, the first time… thinking it’s soon or never with this awesome paneling!
In the kind of battle in this world, it’s part berzerking, part cunning that makes you survive through it multiple times. You take what weapon you can and you think about where it goes, what it can do for you as part of your body, what your foes will try and use against this technique and how you can preclude them, get ahead of their puny minds… in this case.
I’m a writer, and a slight history buff. I need to try and know these things. Anyone got any better an idea of the matter, hit me up.
