I’m guessing that’s a fungal infection of some sort, similar to what Earth insects will sometimes get. I’d like to see a sketch of what a serious case looks like.
I’m starting to really like the Indrel passenger, whatever her name is. She peeks over the edge with such trepidatious curiosity and then makes the most outrageous requests. …eyyyes? Am wanting!
Just remembered this one. My uncle raised meat cattle on a small ranch in Connecticut (I did say small) back in the late 60s; I was about ten years old. I got sorta used to this one brown and white cow that would come over to the fence when I visited the farm. One summer day my aunt and uncle had a barbecue that the family all were invited to. Good hamburgers. My dad liked the steak he got. When I went out to the fence later on, I noticed that ‘my’ cow didn’t show up. I was going to ask my uncle about it when it dawned on me that I might not want to know. Like Kass said, don’t get attached to the livestock.
Awww, poor pill bug.
But those tastey looking eyes.

I really like this early characterization of Elim, knowing how caring and loyal he is shown to be later.
